Everything you need to know about Back Acne, a.k.a Bacne.
Many types of acne can form on your back which includes whiteheads, blackheads, papules, pustules, nodules and cysts.
Whiteheads are referred to as closed comedones and develop when a plugged follicle stays closed, due to the fact it’s unable to oxidise, it forms a white bump underneath the skin. Whereas a blackhead, located on the surface of the skin, forms due to a reaction between sebum and the air - as opposed to the common misunderstanding that a blackhead forms when dirt fills the follicle. A papule is the small pink bumps on the skin that can sometimes be tender and pustules are also known as pimples, is the white or yellow pus-filled papules with a reddened base. Then there is a nodule which is an acne lesion that develops deep beneath the surface of the skin, it then hardens and often becomes painful. The cyst is also large, pus-filled, painful and can even scar the skin.
You can’t always stop back acne from happening, but you can reduce your chances of developing acne lesions. There are several medications such as androgens which are male hormones that increase your chances of developing spots on your back. If you’re using these, you should speak with a doctor about using an alternative treatment. Furthermore, by simply eliminating pressure off our back or wearing clean cotton t-shirts, you can avoid breakouts caused by prolonged pressure and friction against your back.
