3 Tips on how to best apply suncare

  1. Apply daily, regardless of the weather

First of all, it’s important to know you should always use SPF. Cover up and protect your skin from harmful UVB and UVA rays which are present and damage the skin all year round. Consultant Dermatologist, Dr. Hiva Fassihi recommends applying sunscreen on your face every morning before you go out, even if you’re just going to work!

  1. Introduce SPF into your daily skincare routine

Skincare experts advise adopting a high SPF sunscreen as part of your morning routine. It is essential to apply after moisturising and before makeup. Apply at least 20 minutes before heading out to give it time to absorb into the skin so it really works as a protective layer.

  1. Re-apply every 2 hours when in the sun

If you are planning on being exposed to the sun for a prolonged time, make sure you reapply your suncare every two hours. Re-apply even more generously after sweating, swimming and towelling.

Remember, Remember!

Remember sunscreen does not provide you 100% protection.  According to Dr. Hiva, “the most important step we can take to protect our skin in the sun is to actually avoid sun exposure when the sun is at its highest in the sky, and at its strongest. Normally I suggest avoiding the middle of the day sun. If you do have to go out, cover up with clothing, hats and glasses to protect the skin.”
